Crawler Play in Discord
Crawler Play is a character sheet system for the Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game. If your group already lives in a Discord server, your table’s rolls can land there as they happen — in a channel you choose, in your own server, with nothing to install and no bot to keep running.
What arrives
- Every roll made at the table, under the crawler’s own name and portrait — what was rolled, the dice, the total.
- The combat console’s markers, so the channel shows which round it is and which step was called.
- Nothing private. Rolls made on the Private tab of a sheet stay on that sheet. Only what a player already shares with the table is posted.
The dice are rolled on our server, not in anybody’s browser, so what the channel says is what actually happened — which is the part that matters when the table is reading a result nobody watched being rolled.
Setting it up
- Step 1·Make a webhook in your server
In Discord, open the channel you want the rolls in. Edit Channel → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook, then Copy Webhook URL.
You need Manage Webhooks in that server, so this is a job for whoever owns it — usually the GM. A channel of its own is worth making: rolls are frequent.
- Step 2·Paste it into your campaign
Open your campaign in Crawler Play. Under Discord, paste the URL, tick Post this table’s rolls to Discord, and save.
Only the GM sees this panel, and only the GM can change it. Once saved, the URL is never shown again — the page shows just enough to recognise which channel it points at.
- Step 3·Send a test post
Press Send a test post. A card should appear in the channel within a second. If it does not, the message says why — a webhook deleted in Discord is the usual answer, and the fix is to make a new one.
- Step 4·Play
Nothing else to do, and nothing for your players to set up. Anyone at the table who rolls on the Campaign tab of their sheet has their roll posted; they do not need a Discord account, and they do not need to be in your server.
What it can and cannot do
A webhook is the narrowest thing Discord offers, and deliberately what we use instead of a bot. It is worth knowing exactly what you are allowing into your server.
It can
- Post messages into the one channel you made it on
- Post under a crawler’s name and portrait
It cannot
- Read any message, including its own channel
- Reach any other channel in your server
- See your member list, or send anyone a DM
- Hold a role, a permission, or a seat in the server
You hold the off switch, not us. Deleting the webhook in Discord stops it instantly and needs no help from Crawler Play. We post rolls and combat markers and nothing else — no announcements, no notices, nothing you did not ask for.
