Connect ChatGPT or Claude
Crawler Play is a character sheet for the Dungeon Crawler Carl Roleplaying Game. Connect it to the assistant you already use and talk to it about your table — ask what your crawler is carrying, what happened three floors ago, or, if you are the GM, write up tonight’s session and hand someone an achievement.
It runs on your own ChatGPT or Claude subscription. Crawler Play stores no key, sends you no bill, and never sees your account.
Things you can ask it
- “Write up tonight’s session from these notes: the party took the east stairs, lost the pet to a spider swarm, and found a sealed door they could not open.”
- “Give Grimjaw the achievement for falling six floors on purpose — reward was a Bronze Weapon Box.”
- “What has happened in this campaign so far?”
- “Who is at my table, and what level are they?”
- “Send Chanel a system notification: the guild has noticed her.”
- “How much Health Bar have I got left, and what is my Mana?”
Anything it writes lands on the real sheet, marked with a small GM’s AI tag, so nobody at the table mistakes it for something they wrote themselves. Your name stays on it, because you are the one who asked for it.
Connecting Claude
- Step 1·Open your connector settings
In Claude on the web: Settings → Connectors, then Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan an owner adds it once for the workspace, and everyone else presses Connect afterwards.
Works on every plan including Free, though Free allows only one custom connector at a time.
- Step 2·Paste the address
https://crawlerplay.com/api/mcpLeave the advanced OAuth settings alone — they are read from the server, not typed in.
If it asks for an icon, use this one — 256px PNG, well under the 10 KB limit. - Step 3·Approve it
Claude sends you to Crawler Play to sign in, then shows you what it is asking for. Press Allow and it is connected.
Connecting ChatGPT
- Step 1·Turn on developer mode
Settings → Security and login → Developer mode, and switch it on.
- Step 2·Start a new MCP app
Open Plugins, then + → Create app → Create MCP App.
- Step 3·Fill in the form
Name it Crawler Play, and for Connection choose Server URL and paste:
https://crawlerplay.com/api/mcpSet Authentication to OAuth and leave the advanced settings alone — they are read from the server. Tick I understand and want to continue, then Create.
If it asks for an icon, use this one — 256px PNG, well under the 10 KB limit. - Step 4·Approve it
Press Continue to CP, sign in to Crawler Play, and Allow.
What it will not do
Players read, GMs also write. Anyone at a table can ask about their own crawler and their campaign’s story. Writing — journal entries, story entries — is the GM’s, so a player asking for an achievement will be told it is not theirs to hand out.
It does not know the rules. It reads your campaign — your story log, your party, your crawlers’ journals — and nothing else. Ask it how Evade works and it is guessing like any chatbot. It is not a rules reference, and Crawler Play does not hold the books to make it one.
It cannot delete anything. It adds journal entries and story entries. It cannot remove them, reassign a crawler, or change anybody’s stats. If it writes something wrong, delete it the way you would delete your own typing.
Nobody is told. An entry appears on the sheet the next time that player loads it. There is no alert. Mid-session that is fine because everyone is looking; for anything that matters, say it out loud too.
Where your campaign text goes
While a connector is on, whatever you ask about is sent to whoever makes that assistant — Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT — and is handled under their terms and your account with them, not ours. Ask for a recap and your story log goes with the question.
Crawler Play never sees your ChatGPT or Claude account, stores no key for it, and pays nothing towards it. Disconnect the connector in your assistant’s settings and it stops at once.
